Frequently asked questions

What is Hydrotherapy and who can benefit from it?

Hydrotherapy is the use of warm water to allow gentle exercisein a relaxed environment. It can be used in the treatment of both chronic and acute conditions where there is skeletal or soft tissue disorder.

Do I have to be referred to the pool by my GP, Consultant, Physio etc?

No.

How do I get treatment?

Just call at the front desk of the Forres Sports and Leisure Facility (Swimming Pool) or contact them directly on 01309 672984 to make an appointment for an Induction or Assessment with a hydrotherapist.

We will require you to fill in a simple medical questionnaire before you first use the facility and the hydrotherapist can use your answers to help you decide what treatment would be most suitable for you.

After my Induction or Assessment can I turn up any time and go into the pool?

Unfortunately, no. Some sessions are pre-booked by organizations, however there are ‘mobility’ sessions which you can use provided you book in advance – see the timetable on this site or you can pick up a timetable at the pool.

How much does it cost?

See Charges, booking and timetables for pricing information

Can I be referred by my GP for free treatment on the NHS?

Referrals would have to be made by GP’s through the NHS physiotherapist section who will then decide who requires hydrotherapy. This facility is NOT available at the moment.

What medical conditions would prevent me from using the pool?

We would not advise using the facility if you have recently suffered: a stroke, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, DVT, or suffer from resting angina, cardiac failure, uncovered or infected wounds, double incontinence.

Check with your GP or consultant if you are in doubt.

Who can use the facility?

The water depth is up to 1 metre deep at the shallow end and 1.5m at the deep end, so non-swimmers can safely use the pool. There are hoist facilities to help less able bodied people into and out of the pool.

There are emergency pull cords around the pool and in the changing area. The Pool attendant and/or  Staff from the Leisure Centre are always on hand to offer assistance.

Are there salts in the water?

No, this is not a ‘spa’ pool. The water temperature is maintained at 34.5 degrees and the only additive is a little disinfectant.
